Tetrodotoxin
Te|t|ro|do|to|xin [nlat. Tetraodontidae = Kugelfische (griech. odoús, Gen.: odóntos = Zahn); Toxin] von Bakterien in Fischen, Mollusken, Amphibien etc. produziertes äußerst giftiges tetracycl. Alkaloid, das über die Nahrungskette eingeschleppt werden u. Lebensmittelvergiftungen verursachen kann.

Tetrodotoxin
 
[zu Tetraodontidae], starkes Nervengift, das von Bakterien (u. a. Pseudomonas-Arten) gebildet und von einer Reihe von Tieren (z. B. japanischer Kugelfisch, australischer Tintenfisch sowie unterschiedliche Froscharten) mit der Nahrungskette aufgenommen und in verschiedenen Organen, v. a. in Leber und Eierstöcken, gespeichert wird. Vom Menschen durch Fischverzehr aufgenommen, kann es tödlich wirken. Auch Monate nach dem Tod des betreffenden Tieres ist es noch wirksam; durch Erhitzen wird es nicht zerstört.
